C-section Poem

Click here to read a touching poem that demonstrates the feelings a woman was left with after her Cesarean.

While I’ve been reading her blog for many months, and have read other things she and other women have said about the feelings of loss and pain after their C-sections, this poem opened my understanding in a deeper and fuller way.

    It was 5 months after the section and I was at a wedding reception, sitting next to my 11th grade American History teacher. He was telling me about the heart attack he’d had at school the year earlier and his description of the open-heart surgery that followed really struck me. He said, “they just whisked me back and opened me up like an oyster”. I thought hey, that’s like what they did to me, too. I left the reception, went home, and wrote that poem. I originally called it ‘scar tissue’, but decided that ‘shucked’ was more accurate.
