Breech birth video!

This video is awesome. It’s from Australia, and the woman gives birth to a baby in the footling breech position (the baby’s feet present first, as opposed to the buttocks which is the most common breech position).

My thanks to Rixa for posting this link on her blog.

  1. what a valuable gift midwife and mother give to the community!

  2. My daughter had an unplanned footling breech delivery at home, last week, not diagnosed as breech. Labour progressed rapidly, and first we knew was when a foot appeared! I didn’t see the baby emerging, as I was standing holding my daughter’s shoulders, with her half standing/bending over, and listening to instructions from the paramedics to pant or push. They were commenting “there’s the leg”, then “there’s the other leg”. The emergency doctor attending kept hands off until the last moment, when he caught the baby in a rugby hold, wrapped her in a warm towel and laid her on the bed. She looked really surprised, opened her eyes, turned pink and started crying. Mother sat down on the bed, 2 midwives then turned up and the placenta came away safely about half an hour later. What a surprise to all of us, including the baby’s big sister who was woken by the commotion and came in to see, just after the birth which had lasted only 3 1/4 hours. Mother and baby doing very well at home, baby was 8 lb 6 oz and is perfect in every way.

What a wonderful story! Thank you so much for sharing!
