Even a first-time mom can precipitously give birth.

Of course, the things the article *don't* mention (which would be nice for us birth junkies to know), is why she had her first three C-sections. I could see her first one being for FTP, and then the other two because she had the first one; or perhaps a VBAC attempt after the first C-section, and a mandatory elective repeat for the third, since it was less than a full year after her 2nd C-section, or just because she had had multiple C/s and they wouldn't allow an attempted VBAmC.

Assuming that she had labor with all three of her other births -- which may not be accurate, since people are misquoted by journalists all the time -- she may have been induced/augmented, so the contractions were quite a bit stronger and more painful than her natural ones would have been. I've read *numerous* stories in which mothers said that they didn't really think they were in labor because their natural contractions were so mild compared to the Pitocin-induced ones. This may have been the case with this mom -- she was thinking that they were too mild to be "real" labor, since "real" labor requires horrendously painful contractions. :-/

That's funny. I had wondered the same thing about contractions because I made the assumption that the previous two were scheduled c/s.

It's a cool story.

Wow, I had no idea, I'm one of those parents that just thought the DHA AND ARA, were good for my baby, and then i was at a site called diapers.com, trying to find better prices for formula, and was reading feedback on the formula w/out DHA&ARA, and read lots of comments about it being made from algae and fungus .... EWWWW, that's really gross, I breast fed for 6 months and had to stop, went to a milk based formula, and my baby girl and constant acid diarrhea, so they said she was lactose intolerant, but i was confused, because I thought that if she did have this, she would have gas , throw up, cramping too, but now I'm wondering if it was an allergy to the DHA & ARA , She's on soy now , but her BM's are still a little runny, I think I'm going to try the GOOD START NOURISH, W/OUT DHA & ARA, I was not very happy with her being on soy anyway. Thank you for this very helpful info, I will spread the word.

I did have an odd rash later in pregnancy, not PUPPS but another thing and it cleared all up when I started taking the flax seed oil my midwife suggested. Pregnant bodies can be so senstive to a missing oil or mineral! It is amazing (and satisfying!) when you can figure it out!!!

This was very interesting. I had looked into the possibility of c-section long before I was pregnant (due to a genetic issue no one was sure when I was a kid if I could successful birth a baby) and was always told you couldn't have more than 3 due to scaring and complications. These women must have been good healers! It seems like a womb so scared as that wouldn't hold through the full pregnancy!
